Our hospital was proud to host and provide education for Timorese nurse Betty, and support a program (arranged by our surgeons Dr Philip House, Dr Ross Littlewood and Dr Vignesh Raja) which aims to provide visiting nurses with opportunities to observe, and learn about, Australian hospital systems.
Betty spent just over a week in Perth on a trip sponsored by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ East Timor Eye Program.
This educational trip provided a valuable learning opportunity for Betty at Perth Eye Hospital last week, honing her skills as a Vitreo-retinal nurse – an incredibly specialised field.
“The main objective is to gain exposure to Australian ophthalmic nursing practices in order to develop skills as a Vitreo-retinal specialist nurse,” Ros Johnston, our staff development representative, said, “With these skills in hand, Betty can significantly contribute to the expansion of the Vitreo-retinal services in Timor-Leste.”
Thanks for visiting, Betty! We hope you enjoyed this educational experience and hope to see your warm smile again soon.
