More than 54,600kg of food was rescued and distributed by Food Rescue in May, marking a bumper month for the charity.
Since a vital fourth van - sponsored by Perth Eye Hospital - hit the streets earlier this year, Food Rescue has been able to increase the number of collections it makes each day.
The fourth and largest van in the fleet can rescue up to 3,000kg of food each day and has the capacity to visit supermarkets and donors that are further away from Food Rescue’s distribution centre in Belmont.
Sponsorship from Perth Eye Hospital covers lease payments, registration fees, repairs and maintenance of the new van for three years.
The busy May results equated to 109,202 meals made from fresh, nutritious foods that would otherwise be sent to landfill, for those in need.
